Do we stay or do we go? A lodging conundrum…

Several months ago, I booked us two nights at two different lodges in Glacier National Park. A few things about that: I’ve never been there, I wasn’t sure what would be best, there wasn’t a ton of availability, and it was a bit pricey. So I booked at in two hotels that are on different sides of the park and both on lakes. Seemed like a safe bet – June, in the mountains, on lakes – lovely, right?

Well – apparently, Glacier has experienced record snowfall this year. Some parts of the park had over 200 inches of snow! 200 inches = over 16 feet! As of April 30, there was still 36 inches of snow at the Many Glacier Hotel, and it was predicted that the road through to the other side of the park wouldn’t be open – we’d have to take the long way around.

Huh. Snow on our summer mountain adventure definitely wasn’t what I was going for.

OK so I took a look at the map, and noticed that Waterton Lakes National Park just across the border in Canada is easier access, and has a cute town with cheaper lodging and availability. So I booked two nights in a hotel there.

So now I have to decide what to do: which lodge do I cancel? I like both places, I want to see both places, and both places have free cancellation policies for another couple weeks, so I have some more time to decide… 🙂
